My talk at Team ‘23

Automation is currently the rage, but that’s for good reasons. It is making our lives as humans simpler and has for thousands of years. When someone mentions automation, a first (and semi natural) response is “that sounds like too much work to set up”. We as humans are inherently lazy. We see the mountain ahead rather then what’s beyond. While no automation is perfect and yes can take time to fine tune, they are there to make simpler in areas, so we can focus on areas that need that attention. So as an experiment, I asked AI to write me the follow introduction to “what is automation”. How did it do?

What is automation?

Automation is the process of using technology to carry out repetitive and rule-based tasks without human intervention. The use of automation has been increasing rapidly in recent years, and it is transforming how businesses operate. Through automation, companies can save time, cut costs and improve their productivity. Automation has enabled companies to perform tasks that were previously done manually and required significant human effort. Examples of tasks that can now be automated include data entry, invoicing, and inventory management. As technology continues to advance, the potential for automation is only going to grow, and companies that invest in automation are poised to reap the rewards.

I think it did pretty well to be honest!

Okay, enough of what automation is and why we should embrace it, lets get down to todays article. Team ‘23 was Atlassian’s flagship event back in April this year. I was lucky enough to talk at this years event with Appfire (if you don’t know who they are, you should) on just some of the areas we have automated and improved in my company. We discussed three major topics and that be enhanced by automation within your Atlassian environment using some of their apps.

  1. Vulnerability Management
How we managed to turn an overly complicated process into something more streamlined.

  2. Data Retention
Keeping data may be important, but not when it can cost! We take a look at how an automation rule allows us to keep data more lean so searches & performance are better in the tool while keeping the data we need to.

  3. Policy Adherence
“Organizations lose an average of $4 million in revenue due to a single non-compliance issue.“ – Globalscape
To avoid costly errors, learn how we used apps to smarten up our processes while still making user lives easier.
